SE Louisiana Look Ahead
We’re onto the next one after a dreadful DePaul Day. This should be a get right game for the Cards who look to play an underwhelming SE Louisiana team. I’m afraid to say this, but there is no reason to let this team play relatively close to us. We’ll breakdown why I feel this way and what we need to see from Louisville tonight.
I don’t have a lot to say about SE Louisiana since I haven’t watched them play this year, so this is what I have learned about the team by looking at stats. This team shoots a low percentage from FG and 3FG, which are 47.1 FG % and 28.6 3FG%. They play at a pace rated at 73.5 where 75 is considered the fastest rating. They currently have 25 three field goal attempts a game(3FGA/ game) , which is rated 77th in college basketball. This team currently allows teams to shoot 55.6% from the field and 34.9 % from three. What do all of these statistics tell me? This team attempts to play the style that we try to, but simply haven’t done a good job of that this year. They played a team this year where they out rebounded the opposing team by 18 and still have a differential at 0.2, so this team looks to struggle to rebound. This team does not look very impressive especially considering they have some statistics padded by multiple non division one teams mixed into their schedule where they beat those teams considerably. This does not look to be a competitive team.
For starters, I want to see Noah Locke off the bench. The game he played Friday evening was poor and I’m curious how Mack will handle this. I want to see Ellis have more consistent minutes without being pulled to see how what he can do for the offense. We continue to have guys play minutes that are unproductive due to the amount of time they’re in the game, so I hope this continues to change. We need someone to be consistent at the two position and I don’t think Locke will be that guy now. I’ll continue to wait for Withers to find his role, but I hope tonight will be the time for him to figure this out and give him more confidence to do so. I’ll continue to yell for him to be pulled if he stays behind the three point line trying to constantly take contested shots. Take the ball into the lane and cram on someone please. I need it.
This should be a game where we play at the pace we want to and play in transition consistently going off of SE Louisiana’s rebounding stats and their struggles offensively. What I’ll be paying attention to is how this team looks offensively in the half court and if we emphasize getting the ball into the paint. I don’t care how this looks, but need to see either players cutting into the lane, entry passes into the post, or have plays setup to have some kind of movement towards the basket. I frankly won’t be happy unless I see this in moments of the game.
Tonight should be a get right game and something to cheer up the fan base after all of this chaos. We should be able to play in transition and score how we want to, but keep an eye out for how we try to correct this half court offense. I’m going to be critical with this due to how bad this needs to change. I’ll be up top tonight crazy as ever. Let’s hope I don’t have to drown any sorrows like I had to last Friday evening.
SE Louisiana 56- Louisville 82
